Texas Healthcare Alliance Chamber of Commerce Hosts Successful Wound Care Symposium in McAllen
The Texas Healthcare Alliance Chamber of Commerce (THACC) successfully hosted its 2025 Wound Care Symposium: “A Holistic Approach to Treating Complex Wounds” in McAllen, uniting healthcare professionals from across South Texas for a full day of advanced education, collaboration, and innovation in the field of wound management. The symposium welcomed healthcare professionals and medical students, all dedicated to enhancing their expertise and improving patient outcomes in wound care. The event offered continuing education credits and focused on evidence-based approaches to wound management and healing that can be applied in clinical practice. The program featured an impressive lineup of THACC member physicians and specialists who shared their clinical experience and expertise in advanced wound care and revascularization techniques. The symposium opened with a heartfelt welcome from Maritza Gonzalez, Founder of the Texas Healthcare Alliance Chamber of Commerce (THACC), remarks on the importance of wound care from Lorena Hernandez, Co-Founder of THACC, and Tom Castañeda of South Texas Health System, who highlighted the importance of collaboration and lifelong learning in advancing healthcare across South Texas. Dr. Jose Sobrevilla (Wound Care Institute) began the presentations with “Delays & Drivers for Proper Wound Healing,” addressing key barriers to recovery, followed by Dr. Jose Rodriguez (RGV Wound Care Group) who spoke on “Lymphedema Management.” Dr. Joseph Caporusso (Futuro Clinical Trials) discussed “Evaluation of High Risk in a Diabetic Foot,” emphasizing early detection and preventive strategies. After lunch and networking, Dr. Pedro Mego (RGV Vascular and Vein Institute) presented “Is Checking the Circulation Important for Wound Healing? PAD & PVD,” focusing on vascular assessment, while Dr. Pedro Abanto (Wound Care Institute) explored “What Are the 10 Causes of Bed Sores?” In the afternoon, Dr. Caporusso returned with “Advancing Wound Care Through Clinical Research,” followed by Dr. Alejandro Hernandez (RGV Wound Care Group) with “Wound Bed Prep.” The symposium concluded with Dr. Maria Aguinaga’s (RGV Wound Care Group) session on “Atypical Wounds,” addressing complex and uncommon wound cases. THACC members delivered in-depth presentations emphasizing multidisciplinary strategies for preventing amputations, optimizing wound healing, and improving quality of care for patients throughout the Rio Grande Valley. At the heart of the symposium was a shared mission: to provide continuing education opportunities for healthcare providers in the region and to strengthen the overall standard of patient care. Attendees participated in interactive sessions exploring new technologies, treatment modalities, and best practices in wound care, including vascular intervention, diabetic wound management, and tissue preservation. “Education is the foundation of better care,” said Lorena Hernandez, Co-Founder of THACC. “When our providers are empowered with the latest medical knowledge, our entire community benefits. Events like this ensure that the Rio Grande Valley continues to grow as a hub for advanced, compassionate healthcare.” The Wound Care Symposium highlighted the importance of teamwork between physicians, hospitals, and community organizations in improving patient outcomes and reducing preventable complications. By bringing together leaders in multiple disciplines, the event fostered an environment of collaboration, innovation, and shared learning. The Texas Healthcare Alliance Chamber of Commerce expressed its deep gratitude to all presenting doctors, member organizations, partners, vendors, and attendees whose commitment made the event a success. “It begins with our healthcare providers,” THACC Founder Maritza Gonzalez noted. “By investing in their education and creating opportunities for collaboration, we are investing directly in the health and well-being of our community. Together, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of our patients.” The Texas Healthcare Alliance Chamber of Commerce (THACC) is dedicated to connecting and supporting healthcare professionals, organizations, and businesses across the Rio Grande Valley.
